Fix common DNS issues

What Pending DNS actually means, why domains stall, and the order to try fixes in before you contact support.

Updated Aug 27, 2026

DNS is the internet's address book, and it updates on its own schedule. When your domain shows Pending DNS, it means one thing: the records we need to see aren't visible to us yet. Here's how to unstick it.

First, the honest answer: wait#

DNS changes propagate. Most show up in minutes; some providers take hours, and the worst case is about 48 hours. If you added or changed records in the last hour, patience genuinely is the fix.

Then work down this list#

  1. Re-run verification

On the Domains page, use the domain's verify action. For domains bought through Artistplus this does more than check — it rewrites the managed DNS records back to the correct values, which self-heals most misconfigurations in one click.

  2. Check the records character-for-character

For connected domains, compare what's in your registrar's DNS panel against what the connect screen shows. The classic misses: the record was added to the wrong domain, the www CNAME is missing, an old A record from a previous host is still there fighting the new one, or a stray trailing dot or space snuck into the value.

  3. Turn off proxying

If your DNS provider proxies records (Cloudflare's orange cloud), switch those records to plain DNS. Proxying hides your domain's true destination, which blocks verification and SSL issuance.

  4. Check the domain itself isn't paused

A domain pauses if your plan drops to Free (custom domains are a paid feature) or if a renewal payment fails. Paused isn't broken — fix the cause (upgrade, or settle the renewal) and routing resumes with the domain intact.

Still stuck?#

Open a case from Support in the dashboard and tell us the domain name and what you've already tried — that context saves a round trip, and we can see the same status page you can.
